Dhaka, June 26, 2026:
Australia has signed a new AUD16 million (around BDT 137 crore) agreement with UNICEF to strengthen humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh.
The agreement was signed by Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle and UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flowers in the presence of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
The funding will provide flexible and predictable support, enabling UNICEF to respond quickly to emerging humanitarian needs and sustain essential services for children living in the Rohingya camps and surrounding host communities.
The contribution forms part of Australia’s broader AUD370 million (approximately BDT 3,162 crore) humanitarian package for Myanmar and Rohingya and host communities in Bangladesh for 2026–2028.
Since the onset of the Rohingya crisis in 2017, Australia has committed AUD1.26 billion (around BDT 10,770 crore) in humanitarian assistance across the region.
Australia reaffirmed its continued support for the Government of Bangladesh in addressing one of the world’s largest refugee crises. Through its partnership with UNICEF and other humanitarian agencies, Australia aims to ensure displaced Rohingya continue to receive essential services until conditions allow for their voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable return to Myanmar.
The latest agreement underscores Australia’s long-term commitment to protecting vulnerable refugees and supporting communities hosting them.
