Dhaka, June 24, 2026:
Bangladesh and Australia have jointly launched the Climate Change in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean Art Exhibition at the University of Dhaka, highlighting bilateral cooperation on climate awareness and scientific research.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle. It is being held under the Australia-Bangladesh Arts and Cultural Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2024.
Developed by the Australian Government and the National Museum of Australia, the exhibition marks the 35th anniversary of the Madrid Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty. It showcases the importance of Antarctic research in understanding the pace, severity and global impacts of climate change.
Bangladesh is the first country outside Australia to host the exhibition, which has been organised in collaboration with the University of Dhaka and the University of Chittagong. The initiative also brings together academics and scientists from both countries to exchange knowledge on climate research.
Speaking at the inauguration, High Commissioner Susan Ryle said Australia remains committed to strengthening climate adaptation and resilience in Bangladesh, adding that research in Antarctica helps the world better understand future climate risks.
The exhibition is open to the public at the Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka, until June 28.
