Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mia Md. Mainul Kabir, has presented his credentials as the non-resident Ambassador of Bangladesh to Liberia to Joseph Boakai.

The credentials were presented during a formal ceremony on May 25, after which Ambassador Mainul Kabir held a bilateral meeting with President Boakai. During the meeting, the envoy conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Government and people of Bangladesh and expressed gratitude for being accredited as Bangladesh’s non-resident ambassador to Liberia.

The ambassador highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening relations with African countries under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following the country’s 13th parliamentary election. He also recalled the significant contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to Liberia’s post-war reconstruction, particularly in the healthcare and infrastructure sectors.

Seeking to expand economic cooperation, Ambassador Mainul Kabir showcased Bangladesh’s export strengths in ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, jute products and information technology, and requested Liberia’s support in increasing the presence of Bangladeshi products in its market. He also proposed exploring contract farming initiatives, citing Bangladesh’s achievements in agricultural development.

The envoy further emphasized the importance of cooperation among Global South countries in addressing global challenges and promoting international peace. He also extended an invitation to President Boakai to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

President Boakai expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s peacekeeping contributions in Liberia and voiced interest in expanding bilateral trade, cultural exchanges and cooperation in international forums. He assured the ambassador of his government’s support in carrying out his diplomatic responsibilities.

The meeting was attended by Acting Foreign Minister Ethel Davis and senior officials from the Liberian presidency.
