Bangladesh to Get Full-Time Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata After Nearly Two Years

Dhaka, 01 July, 2026:

The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata is set to receive a full-time Deputy High Commissioner after nearly two years, with career diplomat Mohammad Khaled expected to assume the post in the third week of July.

Khaled, currently serving as the Consul General of Bangladesh in Kunming, China, is likely to take up his new responsibilities after 15 July, ending a prolonged period during which the mission was led by acting officials.

A member of the 25th Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs) cadre, Khaled joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 2006. During his diplomatic career, he has served at Bangladesh missions in Myanmar, Portugal and Greece, alongside key assignments at the ministry.

At the Foreign Ministry, he worked in several important divisions, including the SAARC, BIMSTEC and ACD Wing, the West Asia Wing, the Central Asia and Africa Wing, and the Europe and European Union Wing.

Academically, Khaled holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He also earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Forestry and Environmental Sciences from the University of Chittagong.

Born in Chattogram on 1 July 1979, Khaled is married and has two daughters.

Following the political transition in August 2024, the Bangladesh mission in Kolkata had been headed by acting deputy high commissioners. Most recently, First Secretary (Political) Ayesha Akhter has been serving in the acting role after the previous acting head completed his tenure and returned to Bangladesh in June.

Khaled’s appointment is expected to provide stable leadership to one of Bangladesh’s most important diplomatic missions in India.
