Bangladesh Women Cricketers Given Warm Send-Off Ahead of T20 World Cup

The British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a special reception on Wednesday to honour the Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team as they prepare to compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in England and Wales next month.

Hosted by British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke, the event celebrated the team’s achievements and wished the players success as they get ready to represent Bangladesh on the global stage.

The reception was attended by members of parliament, senior government officials, representatives of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, political leaders, sports personalities and media representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Sarah Cooke highlighted the significance of cricket in strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh.

“Cricket is a beloved sport in both the UK and Bangladesh and plays a vital role in strengthening people-to-people ties between our two nations,” she said.

“We are delighted to welcome the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team to the UK in the coming month and look forward to supporting them as they compete at the highest level,” the High Commissioner added.

The event provided an opportunity to recognise the players’ dedication and hard work while also showcasing the growing sporting relationship between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. It further underscored the shared commitment of both countries to promoting women’s empowerment through sports.

Guests had the opportunity to interact with members of the national squad and coaching staff during the reception, which featured brief remarks and informal exchanges.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will bring together the world’s leading teams in a bid for the prestigious title. Matches will be played across multiple venues in England and Wales, with host nations England and Scotland among the participating teams.
