Tokyo, March 14, 2026:
Bangladesh has joined a high-level gathering of energy ministers in Tokyo, where regional leaders are meeting to discuss strengthening energy security across the Indo-Pacific.
Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmud is visiting Tokyo to participate in the Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum, being held from March 14–15.
The forum is co-hosted by the chair and vice chair of the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council—U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright—along with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ryosei Akazawa.
Energy ministers and senior representatives from several Indo-Pacific countries are attending the event, including Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
During the two-day forum, participating ministers will discuss strategies to strengthen energy security in the Indo-Pacific region. The discussions will focus on ensuring the supply of abundant, reliable, affordable, secure and dispatchable energy to support sustainable economic growth.
On the sidelines of the forum, Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood is expected to hold bilateral meetings with ministers and delegations from participating countries, including the United States, Japan and Brunei. He is also scheduled to meet representatives of international private sector companies to explore opportunities for greater investment and cooperation in Bangladesh’s energy sector.
