UNDP Bolsters Bangladesh’s Electoral Training Capacity with IT Equipment Handover

Dhaka, 26 February 2026:

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has handed over 30 desktop computers to the Electoral Training Institute (ETI), reinforcing efforts to strengthen post-election institutional capacity in Bangladesh.

The equipment was formally transferred at the office of the Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC) in Dhaka on 26 February, marking a strategic transition in UNDP’s support — from assisting electoral delivery to consolidating long-term institutional resilience.

The initiative follows the successful 13th Parliamentary Elections held on 12 February 2026, which were conducted peacefully and demonstrated strengthened operational leadership by the BEC. These improvements were supported through sustained technical assistance under the Democratic Reforms through Inclusive Participation (DRIP) and BALLOT projects.

As Bangladesh moves into the post-election phase, the focus has shifted to capturing lessons learned and preparing for upcoming local government polls. ETI, the Commission’s central training hub, will utilize the new IT equipment to modernize its training systems through digital learning platforms, simulation-based exercises and improved data management.

Speaking as chief guest, Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker described the handover as “an important milestone” in strengthening post-election capacity and institutional sustainability.

UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative Stefan Liller reaffirmed the agency’s continued commitment to supporting the Commission in building on recent gains and preparing for future electoral processes.

The support is expected to enhance standardized, scalable and digitally enabled training programmes, contributing to long-term democratic governance in Bangladesh.
