Dhaka, 14 October 2025:
The Government of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has launched the Manual on Migration and the Bangladesh Migration Snapshot Report at a high-level event titled “Building Knowledge for Better Migration” in Dhaka.
Developed with support from the European Union, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Manual on Migration is a landmark resource aimed at strengthening migration governance.
It includes 15 modules covering key migration topics, policy frameworks, and cross-cutting issues like gender, protection, and human rights. The manual is designed to support policymakers, government officials, researchers, and development partners in making informed, data-driven decisions.
The Bangladesh Migration Snapshot Report offers a consolidated view of migration data, trends, and policy developments. It underscores the critical role of timely, disaggregated data in designing effective migration strategies and promoting coordinated action among stakeholders.
Bangladesh, a leading country of origin for migrant workers, received USD 27 billion in remittances in 2024, making migration vital to its economy and social fabric.
The launch event featured key figures including IOM Regional Director Iori Kato, Senior Secretary Dr. Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan (MoEWOE), and senior representatives from the Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the European Union Delegation.
Participants emphasized the importance of data, knowledge sharing, and collaboration to ensure safer, more transparent, and effective migration governance in Bangladesh.
