Biodiversity is a term where we can see the variety of variation of genetic variability, species and also ecosystem diversity level. It is a greater version of climate change, earth’s surface and ocean’s life also.
The Earth is undergoing a mass extinction that could see up to a million of species disappear in the coming decades, and humans are badly contributing heavily to this.
According to researchers, “biological annihilation” of wildlife in recent decades means a sixth mass extinction in Earth’s history is under way and is more severe than previously feared.
Scientists analyzed both common and rare species and found billions of regional or local populations have been lost. They blame human overpopulation and overconsumption for the crisis and warn that it threatens the survival of human civilization, with just a short window of time in which to act.
Like every country, the government of Bangladesh, a South-East Asian country, is taking comprehensive steps to conserve the country’s biodiversity. The policy makers also said that various plans have been taken to implement national and international commitments in this regard.
Every year 22nd May is observed as International Day for Biological Diversity. It is not only a day for remembrance, but also a day for creating awareness to mass people. We know that people are responsible for harming the biological as well as the whole ecosystem. Meanwhile, people also can save the biodiversity system.
In view of World Biodiversity Day, eminent people in Bangladesh have called upon all the government personnel as well as the private sector to come forward to implement these plans. Along with that, they have urged strict enforcement of laws along with public awareness to protect biodiversity.
Biodiversity system faces more threats than at any time in the past. According to the United Nations, if the current trend of natural destruction continues, within ten years about 1 million species may vanish from the world. It is estimated that by 2070, one in three animal and plant species in the world may become extinct.
The forest department of Bangladesh says, to save all species in these circumstances, they work on it. The forest department says that they work to create awareness to the people who live in near the forest area, so that the people can save the species rather than harm it. They believe that, by working together, our biodiversity system will recover very soon.
Another Environment expert of Bangladesh, Emeritus Professor named Ainun Nishat says that we all are saying many theoretical systems as well as planning many to save our Biodiversity. But now is enough for theory in this sector, it’s time to take action to save our planet.
According to the conditions of the United Nations, if Bangladesh is to reach the target of sustainable development, it should play an important role in dealing with the environmental disasters caused by climate change. In line with this, research activities are continuing on reducing global warming, air pollution, water pollution, unplanned urbanization and deforestation.
We also know that the biosphere reserves around the world are damaged. For this there is a serious negative impact on the human food and health system. However, despite the limited resources, the government is taking and implementing various activities to preserve the environment. To save the environment Bangladesh Government is always aware of people by distributing leaflets, performing rallies and so on. Even, reducing sound pollution, the Environment Department of Bangladesh is running a mobile court also.
Experts say that a sustainable future will be ensured for the present and future generations only through conservation of biodiversity and nature to sustain the earth.
