Bangladesh Urges Fairer Global Finance for LDCs at UN ECOSOC

New York, July 13 (SS News):

Bangladesh has called for sweeping reforms to the global financial system, urging the international community to provide greater support to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Speaking on behalf of the Group of LDCs during the General Debate of the High-Level Segment of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Prime Minister’s Adviser for Finance and Planning, Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, stressed the need for increased concessional financing, reforms to the international financial architecture, accessible climate finance, expanded market access and stronger technology cooperation.

He said LDCs continue to face mounting debt burdens, climate change impacts, declining official development assistance, widening digital divides and limited access to affordable financing, all of which are slowing progress towards the SDGs.

Dr. Titumir urged the international community to ensure predictable development financing, equitable debt solutions, enhanced climate action, development-friendly trade policies and greater technology transfer to help LDCs overcome structural challenges.

Reaffirming the LDC Group’s commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda and the Doha Programme of Action, he warned that with fewer than five years remaining to meet the SDGs, urgent and coordinated global action is essential to put the world’s poorest nations back on track.
