Stephen Rodriques Takes Charge as UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh

Dhaka, 14 July, 2026:

Dhaka, July 14: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has appointed Stephen Rodriques as its new Resident Representative in Bangladesh, succeeding Stefan Liller.

Rodriques will lead UNDP’s development cooperation in Bangladesh, working closely with the government, development partners, civil society, the private sector and local communities to advance inclusive development, strengthen resilience and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Rodriques said it was a privilege to join UNDP Bangladesh and contribute to the country’s development journey. He said he looked forward to working with the government and development partners to build on existing achievements and promote inclusive, sustainable and community-focused development solutions.

A Jamaican national, Rodriques brings more than 30 years of experience in international development and public-sector leadership. Prior to his appointment in Bangladesh, he served as UNDP Resident Representative in Afghanistan, Liberia and Rwanda, and as Deputy Country Director in Indonesia. He has also held several senior leadership positions within UNDP.

Before joining the United Nations, Rodriques served in senior roles in the Government of Jamaica, contributing to public administration and national development.

His appointment comes as UNDP continues its partnership with Bangladesh in supporting sustainable economic growth, climate resilience, democratic governance and social inclusion.
