Dhaka, 14 July 2026:
The British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a special reception on Tuesday to honour Bangladeshi athletes heading to the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, later this month.
Hosted by British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, the event celebrated the dedication and achievements of the national contingent while wishing them success as they prepare to represent Bangladesh on the international stage.
Bangladesh will compete in four disciplines—athletics, boxing, artistic gymnastics, and swimming—at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
The reception also underscored the strong and enduring partnership between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, highlighting the Commonwealth’s shared values of friendship, fairness, respect, and opportunity through sport.
Senior government officials, members of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, heads of diplomatic missions in Dhaka, as well as representatives from the sports and media sectors attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Sarah Cooke said the Commonwealth Games remain a unique platform that unites a diverse family of nations through shared values.
“The Commonwealth Games are something truly special. They bring together a diverse family of nations—connected by shared values of fairness, respect, and opportunity,” she said.
Wishing the Bangladeshi contingent success, Cooke added, “As this fantastic group of athletes from Bangladesh departs for Glasgow in a few days, I wish them the very best.”
The United Kingdom is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the third time since 2014, reaffirming its commitment to the Commonwealth and the unifying power of sport.
