Assistant Secretary S. Paul Kapur Arriving in Dhaka to Boost U.S.-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership

Dhaka, March 2, 2026

S. Paul Kapur, Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the United States Department of State, will arrive in Dhaka on March 3 for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening strategic ties between the United States and Bangladesh.

The announcement was made in a statement attributable to U.S. Mission Spokesperson Poornima Rai on Monday.

During his visit, Assistant Secretary Kapur is scheduled to meet with officials of the new government as well as business leaders. Discussions will focus on expanding bilateral trade and investment, enhancing security cooperation, and advancing shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to the statement, the visit underscores Washington’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Dhaka at a time of evolving regional and global dynamics. The meetings are expected to explore ways to further strengthen economic engagement and reinforce collaboration on regional stability and security issues.

Kapur oversees U.S. policy toward South and Central Asia and plays a key role in advancing diplomatic engagement and strategic cooperation across the region. His visit is seen as part of broader efforts to consolidate U.S.-Bangladesh relations in the years ahead.
