Dhaka, 10 February 2026 – The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has deployed 90 short-term observers (STOs) across Bangladesh to monitor election day proceedings in all 64 districts. These observers will oversee the opening of polling stations, the voting process, ballot counting, and the tabulation of results.
“The observations and reports from our short-term observers will play a crucial role in assessing the integrity of these elections,” said Ivars Ijabs, Chief Observer of the EU EOM. The deployment of STOs complements the work of 56 long-term observers, who have been monitoring the pre-election environment since mid-January, focusing on campaign activities, voter education, and interactions with key stakeholders.
In addition to the observers from EU member states, 35 locally recruited short-term observers from the EU, Canada, Norway, and Switzerland are also part of the mission. This brings the total number of EU EOM observers to over 200.
The EU EOM will release its preliminary findings in a press statement on 14 February, with a final report and recommendations to follow after the completion of the electoral process. Both documents will be made available publicly on the Mission’s website.
