Professor Nur Mohammad Talukder Re-elected BAPA President, Alamgir Kabir as General Secretary

Dhaka, January 19, 2026:

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) has re-elected Professor Nur Mohammad Talukder as President and Md Alamgir Kabir as General Secretary for the 2026–2027 term. The decision was announced at the first meeting of BAPA’s newly formed central executive committee, held on Sunday evening at the organisation’s central office in Sobhanbag, Dhaka.

The meeting was chaired by BAPA Vice-President and BEN founder Professor Dr Nazrul Islam. During the session, responsibilities were distributed among members of the 46-member central executive committee for the two-year term.

The committee includes prominent academics, environmental activists, economists, architects, lawyers, and representatives of various environmental and river protection movements from across the country. Notable members include Professor Dr Nazrul Islam, Professor M Firoz Ahmed, Professor Dr Mohammad Khalequzzaman, Professor Dr Mustafizur Rahman, Khushi Kabir, Professor Anu Muhammad, architect Iqbal Habib, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Hasan Yusuf Khan, and several leaders from river and environmental protection movements such as the Teesta and Baral river campaigns.

BAPA leaders reaffirmed their commitment to addressing Bangladesh’s growing environmental challenges, including climate change, river degradation, pollution, and unplanned urbanisation. They emphasized the need for stronger public engagement, policy advocacy, and coordination with civil society to protect the country’s natural resources.

Founded as a nationwide environmental movement, BAPA continues to play a key role in raising awareness and advocating for sustainable development and environmental justice in Bangladesh.
