SS Report
Bangkok, 25 December 2025:
Thailand and Bangladesh are on track to finalize a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to facilitate the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers. The announcement came after a productive meeting between Thailand’s Minister of Labour, Ms. Treenuch Thienthong, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador, Faiyaz Murshid Kazi.
Minister Thienthong expressed optimism about addressing Thailand’s ongoing labour shortage through the planned MOU, which would allow the safe and regular recruitment of workers from Bangladesh. Ambassador Kazi assured that Bangladesh is committed to sending workers in a secure and orderly manner, and invited Thai authorities to visit Bangladesh to observe the country’s migration systems.
The meeting also highlighted the need for a sustainable and secure migration process while addressing Thailand’s immediate labour needs. Ambassador Kazi briefed the Minister on discussions with the Thai business community and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s intention to adopt best practices from other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The issue of opening Thailand’s labour market to Bangladeshi workers has been under discussion for nearly a decade. With recent developments, including the return of Cambodian workers from Thailand, the discussions have gained renewed momentum. Ambassador Kazi also extended an invitation for Minister Thienthong to visit Dhaka to further strengthen bilateral ties.
