SS Report
Dhaka, 14 December 2025:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday summoned the Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka to express the Government of Bangladesh’s serious concern over India’s continued allowance of fugitive former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to make what it described as “incendiary statements” aimed at inciting terrorist activities inside Bangladesh and undermining the upcoming parliamentary elections.
During the meeting, Bangladesh reiterated its demand for the expeditious extradition of Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal so that they may face sentences already handed down by the judicial authorities of Bangladesh.
The Ministry also drew the attention of the Indian envoy to alleged anti-Bangladesh activities by fugitive Awami League members currently staying in India. According to the Foreign Ministry, these individuals are involved in planning, organizing and facilitating terrorist activities inside Bangladesh with the objective of disrupting the forthcoming elections. Bangladesh urged the Indian government to take immediate steps to halt what it termed “criminal actions by fascist terrorists” and to extradite those involved without delay.
In addition, the Ministry sought India’s cooperation in preventing the escape of suspects linked to the recent attempted assassination of Bangladeshi political leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Bangladesh requested that, should any of the suspects manage to enter Indian territory, they be immediately apprehended and extradited.
Emphasizing the importance of regional responsibility, the Ministry stated that as a neighbouring country, India is expected to stand with the people of Bangladesh in upholding justice and safeguarding democratic processes.
In response, the Indian High Commissioner conveyed that India looks forward to peaceful parliamentary elections in Bangladesh and expressed his government’s readiness to extend all necessary cooperation in this regard.
