SS Report
Dhaka, 13 December 2025
The Executive Board of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has approved US$51.4 million in financing for a major rural development initiative in Bangladesh, contributing to a total project cost of US$211.7 million. The decision was taken at IFAD’s 146th session held on 9–10 December 2025.
The six-year Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN) project will run from 2026 to 2031 and is expected to benefit around 1.1 million people living in some of Bangladesh’s most climate-vulnerable regions, including the Haor wetlands, Coastal Belt, High Barind, and River Char areas.
The project aims to enhance climate resilience, strengthen food security, and promote inclusive rural entrepreneurship by supporting smallholder farmers, rural microenterprises, and young entrepreneurs. Key interventions include the expansion of climate-smart agricultural practices across crops, livestock, and fisheries, the use of renewable energy and efficient water technologies, and the promotion of organic farming and small-scale processing.
GREEN will be executed by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance and implemented by Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), with oversight from a national steering committee. The initiative aligns with Bangladesh’s national development strategies and global commitments on climate action, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.
