Khulna, 25 November 2025:
A symbolic 5-kilometre run titled “Run for Her Resilience 2025” was held today in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, calling attention to the daily hardships faced by climate-vulnerable women. The event was organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Brighters, with support from the Green Climate Fund’s GCA project.
Nearly 100 young participants took part in the run, with men carrying water pitchers to represent the long and exhausting journeys women must take each day to collect safe water in climate-affected areas like Shyamnagar.
The event was inaugurated by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Dedarul Islam, who said the initiative symbolised the collective effort needed to confront climate challenges. “This run is a meaningful gesture of respect and awareness for climate-vulnerable women,” he noted.
Participants shared how the experience changed their perspectives. Ashikur Rahman admitted he struggled to carry the water jar, saying it revealed the physical labour women endure daily. Another participant, Meghla Mondol, reflected on her mother’s long walks for water and the ongoing struggle to afford safe drinking water.
UNDP Head of Communications Md Abdul Quayyum emphasised the disproportionate impact of climate change on women, calling the initiative timely and necessary.
The event served as a powerful reminder that water scarcity is not only an environmental issue but a gendered one—demanding empathy, awareness and collective action for a more resilient future.
