Republic of Korea Provides USD 5 Million to Support Rohingya Refugees

SS Cox’s Bazar

Dhaka, 25 November 2025:

The Republic of Korea has committed USD 5 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to improve living conditions for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, home to one of the world’s largest and most congested refugee settlements.

The funding will support more than 420,000 refugees, enhancing water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services across seven camps. It will also ensure continued access to clean cooking fuel through the regular distribution of LPG to 41,500 refugee families in 17 camps. The assistance aims to improve the safety and reliability of WASH facilities and ensure inclusive services for vulnerable groups, including women, girls, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

LPG distribution remains essential for refugee households, contributing to food security, reducing deforestation, lowering health risks, and decreasing the exposure of women and girls to gender-based violence associated with firewood collection.

H.E. Park Young-sik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, reaffirmed Korea’s steadfast humanitarian support, noting that this year’s contributions — including USD 10 million in additional funding and a major rice shipment — reflect Korea’s long-term commitment to the Rohingya response.

IOM Bangladesh Chief of Mission Lance Bonneau welcomed the support, highlighting its direct impact on the dignity and resilience of communities dependent on aid. Korea has been a trusted partner in the Rohingya crisis since 2017, supporting protection, health and essential services.
