The First Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo officially opened in Dhaka, marking a significant milestone in the 50-year diplomatic partnership between the two nations.

Organized with the theme “Green Textile,” the expo aims to promote sustainable transformation in the textile sector — a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s economy.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese ambassador Yao Wen highlighted the event as a platform to showcase China’s advancements in green textile technologies and eco-friendly manufacturing. The expo brings together business leaders, policymakers, and scholars from both countries to discuss innovation in textile machinery, digital printing, and smart manufacturing.

China reaffirmed its commitment to support Bangladesh in achieving a green industrial transformation through energy-efficient technologies and sustainable materials, strengthening Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global supply chain.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Bangladesh. Bilateral trade has surpassed USD 24 billion, with China remaining Bangladesh’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years. Since August last year, over 20 Chinese firms have signed investment agreements worth nearly USD 800 million.

China has also granted zero-tariff access to 100% of Bangladeshi products until 2028 and recently opened its market to fresh Bangladeshi mangoes, with more agricultural exports under consideration.

The event underscores both countries’ shared vision for sustainable development and win-win cooperation in building a greener, more inclusive global economy.
