Kuala Lumpur, 20 August 2025:

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 19th August, Tuesday observed the first anniversary of the July-August Uprising and Remittance Fighters Day with due solemnity.

The event, themed “July Beyond Borders,” saw active participation from the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

The program began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a special prayer for the martyrs of the uprising and the peace and prosperity of the nation.

A one-minute silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives, and official messages from the Honorable President and Chief Adviser were read aloud.

High Commissioner Md. Shamim Ahsan inaugurated a special graffiti and photo exhibition on the uprising and the role of migrant workers.

The exhibition will remain open digitally for embassy visitors throughout the following week. Two short documentaries were also screened—one on the uprising and another highlighting the contributions of expatriate remittance fighters.

In his speech, the High Commissioner paid tribute to the martyrs of the 2024 uprising and expressed gratitude to the remittance fighters. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to realize the vision of an egalitarian state.

He noted that the current caretaker government has launched various initiatives for the welfare of expatriates, including securing multiple-entry visas for Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.

He further highlighted the ongoing digitalization of consular services and the availability of mobile and postal services to reach a broader expatriate base.

The event was attended by local community leaders, migrant workers, student representatives, journalists, and embassy officials. It concluded with a reception for the guests.
