Dhaka, 7 August 2025:
The newly appointed German Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, officially began his diplomatic mission after presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
Accompanied by his spouse, Ivana Lotz, the Ambassador participated in a formal ceremony that marked the start of his tenure. During a subsequent meeting, President Shahabuddin and Ambassador Lotz discussed avenues to deepen the longstanding Germany-Bangladesh bilateral relationship.
Key topics included strengthening democracy, promoting human rights and women’s empowerment, addressing climate change, enhancing cooperation in renewable energy, and boosting trade and investment between the two nations.
In his remarks following the ceremony, Ambassador Lotz praised Bangladesh’s hospitality and resilience, stating, “The spirit of the Bangladeshi people is truly inspiring. Germany and Bangladesh share a longstanding relationship; we will continue to walk this path together.”
Dr. Lotz brings over 30 years of diplomatic experience across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. His previous postings include roles as Consul General in Karachi and Deputy Head of Mission in South Africa, Colombia, Serbia, and Afghanistan. He has also served in Turkey, Kosovo, Mexico, and at the German Foreign Office in Berlin.
A legal scholar by training, Ambassador Lotz holds a Doctor of Law from Freie Universität Berlin and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Serbian.
