Mobile operators are not cooperating in handing over BTS (Base Transceiver Stations) to tower companies, said BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari.

According to the Towerco Guidelines, mobile operators are not permitted to erect towers of their own.

“No changes will be made to the Towerco Guidelines without consulting stakeholders, so there is no reason for foreign investors to worry,” the regulatory body chief assured.

Mr. Bari shared his views and answered questions regarding Towerco operations, the proposed guideline reforms, and related issues at an event organized by the country’s leading telecommunications infrastructure companies.

The event, titled Towerco Build Forward Forum 2025, was held at a hotel in the capital today. During the event, telecommunications infrastructure companies announced a joint initiative focusing on policy reforms, inter-sectoral collaboration, and future-proof infrastructure capabilities for a Digital Bangladesh.

Held under the theme Unifying Towerco for a Smarter Bangladesh, the forum highlighted the vital role of tower companies in ensuring over 90 percent mobile network coverage nationwide.

Discussions emphasized how tower companies are laying the foundation for nationwide connectivity, digital inclusion, and economic progress through various interactive sessions.

Top executives from the four licensed Towerco companies—Edotco Bangladesh, Summit Communications, Frontier Towers, and Kirtankhola Tower Bangladesh—participated in a panel discussion where they addressed current challenges and outlined future priorities for the sector.
