For the second time, Bangladesh has participated in the 36th Malaysia International Machinery Fair, held from 10–12 July at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur. Organised by Promas International Business Society and ES Event Management, the fair hosted over 450 companies from 10 countries, including China, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and India, across 753 booths.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur led the country’s participation, with support from Bangladeshi trade associations and private companies. On the final day of the event, High Commissioner Md. Shameem Ahsan attended the Business Matching session as Guest of Honour and highlighted Bangladesh’s growing potential in trade and investment. He also received a special recognition on behalf of Bangladesh for the country’s active engagement in the fair.

Bangladesh featured two pavilions showcasing a range of export-ready products including plastic goods, bicycles, luggage, electronics, leather goods, jute items, and handicrafts. Key brands included PRAN-RFL, Vision Electronics, Duranta Bicycles, and Goodluck Stationery. Informational materials and documentaries on Bangladesh’s light engineering, plastic, and packaging industries, as well as investment and tourism opportunities, were also displayed.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Ahsan noted that under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s caretaker government, efforts to diversify exports beyond ready-made garments are gaining momentum. Participation in such international fairs helps open new markets and enhance product visibility, he said.

He identified promising Bangladeshi products such as PRAN-RFL’s plastic goods, Duranta bicycles, Travello luggage, Goodluck stationery, and Winner clothing.

Engineering and plastic manufacturers, including members of BEIOA and the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association, showcased machinery and innovative plastic products.

Bangladesh and Malaysia share bilateral trade worth nearly USD 3 billion, with Malaysia ranked as the ninth-largest investor in Bangladesh.

The fair attracted strong interest in Bangladeshi stalls from international buyers and visitors, reflecting growing demand for quality products from Bangladesh.
